The customer had specified a project using a 9 1/2x3x2 rectangular tube and another odd size tube. Unfortunately, that size is no longer made (the economy is causing steel mills to eliminate many non-standard sizes), even though it was in a book indicating it was available. We worked with the customer to find an alternative size that would still meet their specification. After the customer’s engineers talked, it was decided to use the closest available size tubing. Because we anticipated the customer’s needs, we were able to offer suggestions and provide examples which they approved.
